Baked Steak Dinner
by Kathy and Bruce Jacobs

Looking for a great meal that doesn't take much preparation, but which will really wow the group eating with you? Make this great steak recipe, add a simple salad and desert, and voila - Instant gourmet!

Dutch Oven Baked Steak

Ingredients

1/2 pound steak per person

2 lemons

2 cups sliced mushrooms

1 bottle Lea and Perins Steak Sauce

Equipment

Dutch Oven, with liner pan and thermometer

Cutting board and knife

Preparation Steps

  • Pre-heat Dutch Oven with liner pan in it.
  • While oven is pre-heating, slice lemons thinnly.
  • If mushrooms are not sliced, slice them.
  • Lightly toss lemon and mushroom slices.
  • When liner pan is hot enough to sizzle a droplet of water, place steaks in liner pan.
  • Sear first side of steaks, flip, and sear second side of steaks.
  • Remove steaks from liner pan.
  • Pour lemon and mushrooms slices into pan. Pour steak sauce over them and stir.
  • Place steaks on mixture. Cover Dutch Oven.
  • Cook at roughly 350 for 30 to 40 minutes or until steaks are done to your preference.

Notes

When cooking for two, we do this in a 10 inch Dutch Oven. When cooking for four, we do it in a 12 inch Dutch Oven.

Sauce mix as described makes enough for four people. Double if you are feeding more than that.

Update: Bruce has discovered a way to make this recipe even easier than it already is. When he cooks it, he coats the steak in lemonade mix (the powdered kind) and skips the fresh lemons. I have started splitting the difference and using one fresh lemon and some lemonade mix. Be sure to use lemonade mix that already has sugar, or you will get an unusual taste.

What is a liner pan and how do I use it?
