Apple Squish

Looking for a great dessert that the kids can help make? This dish is so good you will want to eat it both at home and at camp, so we have provided recipes for both on one page.

Ingredients

All measurements are approximate and to taste

  • 3 medium apples (red, sweet ones preferred at our house)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Equipments

  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • 1/3 cup measure
  • 1/2 teaspoon measure
  • 18 inch Heavy Duty Foil squares (outoor cooking) or Microwavable bowl with lid (indoor cooking)
  • Wooden spoon

Preparation

To make outdoors:

  1. Core apples.
  2. Cut apples into small pieces or slices.
  3. Place no more than 2 cups of apples in center of foil square. (Make multiple squares for remaining apples.)
  4. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over apples.
  5. Fold and seal the edges to make a packet.
  6. Place packet inside a second foil square and reseal.
  7. Place foil packet on hot coals with sealed edges up.
  8. Heat 10 minutes or until cinnamon smell becomes too much to resist.
  9. Open packets and serve.

To make indoors:

  1. Core apples.
  2. Cut apples into small pieces or slices.
  3. Place apples in microwavable bowl.
  4. Sprinkle sugar and sugar and cinnamon over apples.
  5. Place bowl in microwave oven, place lid on bowl, and microwave on high for 3 minutes.
  6. Stir well.
  7. Return bowl to microwave and cook on high for 3 more minutes.
  8. Repeat last two steps until apples are soft and mushy.
  9. Allow to cool slightly.
  10. Serve as is or pour over ice cream.
  11. Enjoy!

Notes

Alternative serving suggestion: When all apples are ready, dump into prepared piecrusts. Bake as directed on piecrust packaging. If preparing outdoors, use either a Coleman oven or a Dutch Oven to cook. (Note: This can be done as either a one crust or two crust pie, it is up to the cook!)
